What Can German Lead To?
Our Year 9 students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend the Goethe-Institut Career Roadshow at the University of Portsmouth, where they discovered firsthand how learning German can open doors to a wide range of future opportunities.
The event brought together experts from different industries to showcase the many ways language skills can be used in the real world. Students were able to choose from a variety of engaging sessions covering areas such as translation, interpreting, tourism, sustainability, studying abroad and international careers. Each session highlighted the value of German language skills and demonstrated how languages can enhance employability and broaden horizons.
Throughout the day, students gained a deeper understanding of the global connections that languages create. They heard inspiring stories from professionals whose careers have been shaped by their ability to communicate across cultures and borders. From supporting international businesses to working in environmental projects, the message was clear: language learning can open pathways to careers that make a real difference.
The roadshow also encouraged students to think beyond the classroom and consider the opportunities available through study, travel and work abroad. In an increasingly interconnected world, the ability to speak another language is a valuable asset that can set young people apart and give them access to experiences across the UK and around the globe.
We are incredibly grateful to the Goethe-Institut and the University of Portsmouth for hosting such an inspiring event. It was a fantastic experience that helped our students see the practical value of language learning and the exciting possibilities that German can lead to in the future.
